Types of Citizenship Applications
Visa | Purpose |

Citizenship Test & Interview
Most applicants between 18 and 59 years must:

● Must answer all 5 values-based questions correctly - Attend an interview if requested by the Department

Eligibility Criteria
You may be eligible if you:
- Are you a permanent resident of Australia at the time of application and decision
- Hold a valid passport from an eligible country. Some eligible countries include:Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, and the UK.
- Are aged 18 or over

Have lawfully lived in Australia for at least:
● 4 years in total, and
● At least 12 months as a permanent resident -
Have not been absent from Australia for more than:
● 12 months in total during the 4 years, and
● 90 days in the 12 months before applying - Meet the good character requirement
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of English
- Pass the citizenship test (for most applicants aged 18–59)
- Intend to live in Australia or maintain a close and continuing association
